Lough Cutra Castle Multisport Festival To Host National Mixed Relay Championship

Lough Cutra Castle Multisport Festival takes place on May 27/28 in Galway, the largest triathlon and multisport event west of the Shannon will see athletes from all over the country descend on the privately owned Castle Estate in Gort for a fun filled festival weekend of endurance sport.

MIXED RELAY NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP - MAY 27

With triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon, aqua bike, swim and run races taking place there is a race suitable for all levels of ability and aspiration. It really has something for everyone, young and not so young. Hosts of the National Sprint Aquathlon Championship and the first round of the Youth Series supported by Costcutter this year, in an exciting development, the Lough Cutra Castle events have just been awarded the National Mixed Relay Championship for 2023, a massive boost to the weekend’s racing at the castle.

MIXED RELAY HISTORY AT LOUGH CUTRA

The Mixed Relay National Championship was first introduced by Triathlon Ireland
at the Castle in 2017 and sees four athletes from the one club, two male and two
female, go full gas over a short distance triathlon of a 250m swim, 5k bike and 1.5k run in relay format. Each athlete completes their triathlon in rotation on the team before the final athlete runs down the finish line.

Speaking about the Club Championship Brian Adcock, Race Director said “We are delighted to offer the Mixed Relay
National Championship once again. This is one of the most exciting races that takes place for both athletes and spectators. It’s such a quick race for each participant,
the excitement as the dynamics of racing play out as the event unfolds is palpable, the battle for the line really going down to the wire and in the hands of the final team member. It really is a race not to miss!”

To be eligible for the National Championship title all athletes on the team must be members of the same club, however individual athletes can also come together to race at the event. There is also the option of a family mixed relay event so plenty of fun for all.  So, whether it’s a club mates, colleagues, friends or family, the Mixed Relay is definitely one not to miss!
