Castle Race Series – Code of Conduct for ALL ATTENDEES

The Castle Race Series is committed to ensuring a safe, respectful, and fair environment for all participants, crew, marshals, spectators, and partners. At Castle Race Series, we believe in “Race Your Way” — embracing individuality, personal goals, and diverse backgrounds. Let’s ensure every athlete can do just that in an atmosphere that is supportive, inclusive, and welcoming.

This Code of Conduct outlines the standards expected of all athletes in line with the British Triathlon Federation (BTF) and International Triathlon Union (ITU) guidelines. Participation in our events signifies your agreement to uphold these values throughout your involvement in our races.

1. Respect and Rights

All attendees at Castle Race Series events are expected to:

  • Treat others — including athletes, spectators, staff, crew, marshals, volunteers, and local residents — with dignity and respect.
  • Refrain from any form of discrimination or harassment, whether based on age, race, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, disability, religion, socio-economic status, or background.
  • Respect gender-specific changing and private facilities.
  • Speak up or report it to an official if you witness discriminatory or abusive behaviour.

2. Behaviour and Conduct

Everyone attending Castle Race Series events is expected to:

  • Act with kindness, responsibility, and integrity, on and off the course.
  • Avoid swearing, aggressive conduct, or any behaviour that may offend or endanger others.
  • Keep venues clean and use provided toilets — urinating in public areas is not acceptable.
  • Take care of shared spaces including changing rooms, event zones, and spectator areas.
  • Avoid recreational drug use during the event itself.
  • Treat fellow attendees and event crew with patience and gratitude.
  • Report unsafe, concerning, or inappropriate behaviour to a marshal, welfare officer, or crew member.

3. Environmental Responsibility

Castle Race Series events take place in some of the most beautiful and historic locations in the world — from castle grounds to protected landscapes. We ask everyone to help us protect and preserve these unique environments.

  • Respect the natural surroundings, wildlife, and local communities.
  • Use recycling and general waste bins appropriately — do not litter.
  • Avoid damage to event infrastructure, signage, vegetation, or any part of the environment.
  • Stay on designated paths and follow signage to reduce your impact.
  • Leave the venue in the same (or better!) condition than you found it, so others can enjoy it too.

4. Competition Integrity

Athletes specifically are expected to:

  • Follow the competition rules of the British Triathlon Federation (BTF) and the ITU.
  • Use safe, approved equipment and maintain fair play at all times.
  • Cooperate fully with crew, marshals, medical staff, and technical officials.
  • Arrive prepared and on time, and show appreciation to the people who make racing possible.

5. Anti-Doping Commitment

All athletes agree to:

  • Comply with the UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) rules as enforced by the British Triathlon Federation.
  • Understand that you are responsible for any substance found in your system.
  • Be aware that anti-doping tests may be conducted at any time.
  • Familiarise yourself with current UKAD regulations: www.ukad.org.uk

6. Young Athletes (Under 18s)

Young attendees should:

  • Never accept transport, gifts, or invitations from strangers or unfamiliar adults.
  • Make sure travel arrangements are pre-approved by a parent or guardian.
  • Report any concerns, injuries, or issues to a parent/guardian, race official, crew member or welfare officer as soon as possible.

7. Reporting and Consequences
  • Any breach of this Code of Conduct — by athletes, spectators, crew, or other attendees — may result in removal from the event and, where appropriate, reporting to relevant authorities or governing bodies (such as the BTF).
  • We encourage everyone to report unsafe, inappropriate, or disrespectful behaviour to a marshal, welfare officer, or member of the crew promptly.

Let’s Race the Right Way

Together, let’s create a welcoming space for everyone.
