Introducing Belvoir Castle

New venue for 2024

We have acquired a new jewel for the castle crown! We are delighted that Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire, has joined the Castle Race Series for the 2024 season. Crowning a hill, the Castle’s turrets and towers rise over the Vale of Belvoir like a picture in a fairy-tale. The name Belvoir (pronounced today as ‘beaver’) meaning ‘beautiful view’ in French, dates back to Norman times.

Nestled amidst the breathtaking beauty of the English countryside, Belvoir Castle stands as a beacon of history and grandeur. Since 1067 four castles have stood on this spot as it’s a pretty perfect location for a fortified castle.

A new jewel for the castle crown

Looking over the battlements from the North Terrace of the current Castle, you can see for miles over the counties of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire. And on a clear day, you can even see Lincoln Cathedral, over 30 miles to the North East. Belvoir Castle’s history dates back to the eleventh century.

It is the ancestral home of the Duke of Rutland, where the family have lived in an unbroken line for almost a thousand years. The Belvoir Estate extends around the Vale of Belvoir, covering 16,000 acres of land and includes properties, park and woodland.
