We returned to the Castle to host a series of triathlon, multisport, swim and run races, and it did not disappoint! The sunshine returned again for another year and it was deeply appreciated!

We saw athletes from across Ireland, the UK and Europe join us in Galway for a fantastic race weekend! From complete beginners to former Olympians were in attendance taking part in various races. Athletes had the pleasure of swimming in the privately owned lake, conquering the scenic bike course of South Galway and the Burren in County Clare before taking to the enchanting trails of the Estate grounds to finish at the front door of the Castle. If you weren’t there, you really missed out!

Sunday morning, another day of fun filled racing!

Early morning saw our half iron triathletes, the Gauntlets, take to the water! David Higgins took top spot with a time of 04:29:01! Well done to all Gauntlets! Followed behind them were the Olympic distance athletes. The Standard winners were Darren Mooney and Gillian Heavey.

The mid morning then saw the start of standard distance Aquathlon, Aquabike and Duathlon events. Well done to all those that took part in our multisport events, your hard work and dedication to the two disciplines is admirable!

The Run Series began in the afternoon with runners taking on a Marathon, Half Marathon or 10k around the Castle grounds. Congrats to Andrew Coen and Jenny Elliott York on winning the marathon!

Race Director Brian Adcock said “This year at Lough Cutra proved yet again why it is a jewel in the Castle Race Series crown. The racing was phenomenal, the atmosphere was second to none and support from you all was really appreciated!  Thank you to the team, the volunteers, Susie and the Castle, the spectators and most importantly the athletes who raced! This event wouldn’t be possible without you all! We are already looking forward to 2024, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.”
