Castle Howard Race Report

From the Gauntlet to the Junior events, the aquathlons to the 10k, thousands of people gathered at Castle Howard in York on the 24th and 25th of July to compete and watch a weekend full of jam-packed excitement! This is the 11th year we have hosted the event in the glorious Yorkshire countryside.

Saturday’s racing commenced with the Sprint Plus at 8am, once competitors had their informative briefing from Race Director Brian Adcock, the swimmers emerged into 20 degree water, where they made their way round the 800m swim course, 40km cycle and 8km run. The conditions were spot on across the weekend, with the sunshine making an appearance throughout. Saturday’s events included the Sprint Plus, Sprint, Super Sprint and Starter triathlon, followed by Spint Duathlon, Aquathlon, Aquabike, three Swim distances and we ended the day with the Junior triathlons. All set with completing their incredibly challenging races and receiving the iconic Castle Race Series medal! Congratulations to all our winners, but to name a few we would like to congratulate our 1 mile swim male winner Paul Tallentire (00:24:56), Aquathlon Sprint female Abby Parkinson (00:37:51) and Youth 15-16 years  Ben Hill (00:31:57).

Our Sunday events kicked off with the Gauntlet half iron distance (1.9km Swim/90km Cycle/21km run). The first swimmer entered the water at 8am and the last runner came through at 6pm- a challenge not to be taken lightly!  Congratulations goes to Brett Halliwell, our Gauntlet winner (04:17:07). All gauntlet participants were invited to delicious food and a finisher t shirt after completing the course. Some of our winners on Sunday included Olympic female winner Erica Byram (02:26:35), Duathlon Standard male, Joseph Duffield (02:26:38), and TS2 winners Shauna Hamilton (00:26:55) and Archie Mcclure (00:27:19).

This year, we have partnered with Porsche Cars GB, who we are delighted to work with and attended the event displaying a spectacular selection of vehicles for our attendees to view. Our team were also fortunate enough to use the vehicles around site and demonstrate the finest that motorsport has to offer.

The event village looked out onto the lake, an ideal location for those competing and on the side lines. Participants and competitors coming into the finish line were greeted with a fantastic atmosphere in the event village provided by our House band, our lively commentator Ben Croucher, and our thriving traders, under the beautiful Castle backdrop.

Our social media team were on standby at the finish line, interviewing and taking photos and videos. We would like to thank everyone who left reviews on Race Check and shared photos and content on social media! We have loved reading and looking it at them all here in the Castle Race office!
