Belvoir 2026 Race Report
22.07.26

The stunning Belvoir Castle set the stage for the 3rd Castle Race Series Multisport Festival in the heart of Leicestershire, welcoming over 1,300 participants for an action-packed weekend of racing. Renowned for its challenging terrain, the Belvoir Castle course is one of the most gruelling on the Castle Race Series calendar, testing athletes with demanding climbs and relentless undulating sections. With the spectacular scenery, an incredible atmosphere, and two special RAF flypast adding to the occasion, it was a truly unforgettable weekend of multisport.

Day One

FIRST WAVE ARE OFF

With water sitting at a near-perfect 21.9°C, the claxon sounded at 8:30am and the Sprint Plus wave was off. The course pulled no punches: 800m open water swim, 40km bike, 8km run through the stunning Belvoir Castle estate.

Damian owned the Open race, storming to victory in 2:03. Dean Eason chased hard for second in 2:08.

The women’s race was just as fierce. Rekha Owen took the win in 2:37, with Mya Onyett close behind in 2:41.

Sprint

At 9:00am, the stakes rose. 244 athletes lined up for the Sprint Qualifier — a European Championship World Qualifier — all racing for a spot on the international stage.

Jacob Palmer dominated the Open race, crossing in 1:08:16. Logan Macnamara (Craven Energy Tri Club) chased hard, just 16 seconds back in 1:08:32, with Thomas Hollinghurst (TFN TRI CLUB) rounding out the podium in 1:09:52.

The women’s race brought the same intensity. Victoria Bramley stormed to victory in 1:16, Isabelle Land close behind in 1:17, and Amber Keegan securing third with another outstanding display.

With qualification on the line, every athlete left it all on the course — grit, resilience, and fierce racing from start to finish. One of the most electric races of the weekend.

Multisport

The multisport action continued at 9:45am with the Sprint Duathlon, followed closely by the Aquabike and Aquathlon events.

In the Sprint Duathlon, Ian Dickerson claimed victory in the Open category with an impressive time of 1:11, while Erin Bush produced a dominant performance to win the Female category in 1:16.

The Aquabike challenged competitors with a 750m open water swim followed by a testing 20km cycle, rewarding those who could combine endurance with speed across two disciplines. The multisport programme concluded with the Aquathlon, where athletes rounded off the morning with a swim-run challenge, bringing an exciting close to a fantastic morning of racing at Belvoir Castle.

Sprints continued

The action continued at 11:30 as the Super and Starter triathletes took to the course, filling the lake, roads and trails with athletes of all abilities. From first-time competitors embracing the challenge to experienced racers chasing fast times, these popular distances delivered a fantastic display of determination. With the midday sun shining over Belvoir Castle, competitors were treated to spectacular views across the estate as they tackled the demanding swim, undulating bike course and challenging run to the finish line.

SWIM SERIES

Our Swim Series was not far behind, with competitors taking on the 1-mile, 2.5km and 5km open water swims in the beautiful Belvoir Lake. Known for its demanding nature, the course tested every swimmer’s endurance and determination, but each athlete rose to the challenge, making for an inspiring spectacle on the water.

In the longest 5km distance, Moir Angus (Non-Wetsuit) claimed victory in the Open category with an impressive time of 1:18, while Team Bottrill’s Kerry Hickson (Wetsuit) produced a superb performance to take the Female title in 1:12, showcasing the strength and depth of competition throughout the Swim Series.

Special flyover

Adding to the unforgettable atmosphere of the weekend was a spectacular flypast from a Douglas C-47 Dakota military transport aircraft, believed to be part of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. As it soared over Belvoir Castle, athletes, spectators and volunteers paused to take in the breathtaking sight, creating a memorable moment that perfectly complemented an already incredible day of racing.

Juniors

At 14:30, the next generation of triathletes took centre stage as the Triathlon East Midlands Junior Series got underway. The 11–12-year-olds led the action, closely followed by the 9–10-year-olds, delivering plenty of determination, fast racing and fantastic enthusiasm around the course.

A huge congratulations to every junior who took part. Whether it was your first triathlon or your tenth, crossing the finish line is an achievement to be proud of. The passion and confidence on display proved that the future of triathlon is in great hands.

DAY TWO

The Gauntlet

The Gauntlet — the weekend’s ultimate test — got underway at 8:00am. With the lake at a comfortable 20°C, conditions were ideal from the first stroke. Harry Guttridge (Clapham Chasers) dominated the Open category, finishing in 4:37:16. Alex Wallace (St Mary’s Running & Triathlon Club) took second in 4:43:04, with Dylan Walton completing the podium in 4:52:18.

The Female race was just as fierce. Katherine O’Mahony produced a superb performance to claim victory in 5:25:31, closely followed by Francesca Broom who crossed the line in 5:32:42, while Nandini Rawat completed the podium with an impressive 5:43:57 — rounding off a strong display of endurance and determination.

Olympic

The action continued at 9:45am as the Olympic distance race got underway. Widely regarded as one of the most competitive races in the Castle Race Series calendar, athletes took on the demanding 1,500m swim, 42km bike and 10km run, battling both the challenging course and the rising summer temperatures in pursuit of podium places and personal bests.

The course was lined with enthusiastic spectators whose cheers and encouragement created an electric atmosphere, giving competitors an extra boost as they dug deep and powered their way to the finish line.

multisport

The action continued as our multisport races took to the course, with competitors in the Middle Duathlon, Standard Duathlon, Aquabike and Aquathlon all tackling their own unique challenges. Whether racing on two disciplines or three, athletes delivered outstanding performances, embracing the demanding course and warm conditions with determination from start to finish.

Runners

Over 250 runners took on the trails at Belvoir Castle, choosing from the 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon distances. Renowned for its challenging climbs and undulating terrain, the Belvoir course is far from easy, but that’s exactly what makes it so rewarding. Every hill conquered and every mile completed was a testament to the determination and resilience of the runners, with the spectacular castle surroundings making every step worth the effort.

In the Marathon, Lee Baynton delivered a dominant performance to claim the Open title in an outstanding 3:01:00. The Female race was equally impressive, with Emma Peace taking victory in 3:22:13, capping off a superb display of endurance on one of the toughest marathon courses in the Castle Race Series.

Juniors

Our junior athletes took centre stage as racing got underway at 14:00, and it was fantastic to see the junior fields bigger than ever before. With more young athletes taking part than in previous years, the continued growth of our junior events is a brilliant reflection of the future of triathlon and the enthusiasm for the sport among the next generation. From the first start to the final finish, competitors tackled the course with incredible speed, determination and confidence, delivering an inspiring afternoon of racing and proving that the future of Castle Race Series is in very safe hands.

Dogs stole the show

As always, the four-legged supporters stole the show. Dogs of all shapes and sizes brought plenty of joy to the event village and course, enthusiastically cheering on their humans and keeping smiles on the faces of athletes and spectators alike.
